Bitcoin Strategy Pauses, Kraken Acquires Wallet Business, While Storj Labs Files for Bankruptcy

A major investment strategy has extended its pause on Bitcoin purchases for a fifth week, increasing its USD reserves and selling MSTR holdings. Meanwhile, crypto exchange Kraken's parent company, Payward, has acquired Magic Labs' embedded wallet business, marking a strategic expansion. In a downturn for decentralized storage, STORJ token plummeted by nearly 20% after Storj Labs filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing legacy liabilities.

Crypto Market Sees Mixed Signals: Strategic Holds, Acquisitions, and Bankruptcy

A notable investment strategy has opted to maintain its five-week pause on acquiring Bitcoin, instead channeling resources into its USD reserve, which now stands at $3.75 billion, and divesting $544.5 million in MSTR. This move suggests a cautious stance on BTC accumulation in the current market climate.

In contrast, the exchange sector shows signs of consolidation and expansion. Payward, the parent company behind the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, has successfully acquired the embedded wallet business from Magic Labs. Magic Labs will subsequently rebrand as Newton Labs to sharpen its focus on developing onchain finance infrastructure. This acquisition underscores Kraken's efforts to enhance its service offerings and reach within the crypto ecosystem.

However, the decentralized storage segment faces significant headwinds. The STORJ token experienced a sharp decline of almost 20%, falling to $0.06 following the announcement that Storj Labs had filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 26. The filing is aimed at resolving legacy liabilities amidst what appears to be a broader wave of crypto shutdowns, highlighting ongoing financial pressures in certain areas of the digital asset space.
