BounceBit Exploited, Shuts Down Layer 1 Chain After 286.5 Million Token Theft
BounceBit has announced the permanent shutdown of its Layer 1 blockchain following a major security incident where an attacker moved 286.5 million BB tokens from nine mainnet accounts. The project plans to reissue its token as a BEP-20 asset on the BNB Chain.
BounceBit Suffers Major Exploit and Chain Shutdown
BounceBit is permanently retiring its Layer 1 blockchain after a significant security breach. An attacker successfully moved 286.5 million BB tokens from nine mainnet accounts, prompting the immediate cessation of operations for the chain.
Despite the massive unauthorized transfers, the BounceBit team has stated that no private keys, wallets, or hardware devices were compromised. The breach reportedly stemmed from a protocol-level authorization vulnerability.
In response to the exploit, BounceBit intends to reissue its native token as a BEP-20 asset, leveraging the BNB Chain for this migration. This move aims to recover from the incident and provide a path forward for the token holders.
