India and Indonesia Advance Local Currency Payment Linkage
India and Indonesia are reportedly in the final stages of establishing a new mechanism to link local currency payments. This initiative, which began in 2024, aims to facilitate direct transactions between the two nations using their respective national currencies, bypassing reliance on third-party currencies.
India and Indonesia are making significant progress towards implementing a new payment mechanism that will enable local currency settlements. The framework, initially proposed earlier in 2024, is now nearing its final stages of completion. This bilateral move seeks to enhance economic cooperation and reduce transaction costs by allowing businesses and individuals in both countries to transact directly in Indian Rupees and Indonesian Rupiah, rather than converting to a common international currency first.
